Before you start - eligibility checklist: PPOTA only accepts towns, places, and historic sites of cultural interest - historic towns, heritage villages, monuments, archaeological sites, and similar places.
- Accepted: historic towns, heritage villages, historic districts, archaeological sites, cultural heritage monuments, royal towns, natural heritage places.
- Excluded: modern commercial buildings, non-historic parks, and restricted private properties without public access.
- Criteria: fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, associated with rural areas, and built in 1999 or earlier.
- Public access: the site must be reachable by the public (free, paid, or permit). Personal-invitation-only access is not eligible.
- Coordinates: must point to the monument or the center of the historic town (the tool handles this automatically using the polygon centroid).
📏 Step 1: Trace the place on the Map
Switch on Measure Mode, then click points around the town or historic site boundary. Double-click (or click Finish) to close the polygon. The tool will calculate the surface area and pick a reference coordinate at the site centroid.
